To ensure consumers are offered Txakoli de Getaria of the highest quality, the Regulatory Council controls the origin and quality of the native grapes, as well as ensuring they are properly cared for.
Thanks to the recovery and renewal efforts carried out by the harvesters and Basque Authorities and their interest to produce quality, in 1989 the Txakoli de Getaria was recognised as a Denomination of Origin with the name Getariako Txakolina.
In 2007 the Denomination of Origin Getariako Txakolina was extended to cover the entire historic territory of Gipuzkoa.
Each harvester includes the seal of the Designation of Origin Getariako Txakolina on the label, as well as the seal stamped with the controlled series number. This ensures the wine belongs to the Denomination of Origin.
